The first day of Bangla year is called Pahela Baishakh. This much anticipated day comes once a year. According to our culture and tradition, we have been celebrating this day for centuries. Moreover, we celebrate the day to welcome Bangla year formally. We welcome the day singing” Esho hey Baishkh esho esho,,,,,,” . The day is celebrated all over the country. The main attraction of the day starts at Ramna Batamul in Dhaka. On this day, rural people prepare special foods. They also arrange Fairs at important places. On this day, shopkeepers decorate their shops, open Halkhata and offer sweets to their customers and clients. Urban people celebrate the day with much delight and interest. they eat Panta Bhat and hilsha fish in the morning. They wear traditional clothes. Young boys wear Panjabees and Pajamas, and young girls put on white Sarees with red borders. The students of the Institute of Fine Arts of the University of Dhaka bring out colourful procession on Pahela Baishkh. Bangla Academy Shilpakala Academy, Chhayanau etc. organise cultural Functions in their respective premises. Pahela Baishkh is a day of great joy and significance. It reflects our old tradition and culture. Actually, it is the manifestation of our cultural heritage. It reminds us of our rich Bangla culture and tradition.
